I am a senior journalism student at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville where I currently serve as managing editor of The Daily Beacon, the university's editorially independent student newspaper. In this role, I lead newsroom operations, oversee editorial planning and collaborate with editors and reporters to produce accurate, ethical and impactful journalism. In addition to my role with The Beacon, I also serve as an accountability reporting intern at The Knoxville News Sentinel, a USA Today Network newsroom, where I report on the people and issues shaping the community.
This summer, I worked as a Dow Jones news intern at the Richmond Times-Dispatch, where I edited stories for digital and print publication while also reporting on local government and community issues.
These experiences shape how I approach storytelling and reinforce my belief that strong journalism is rooted in trust, perspective and attention to the people and places it serves.
After graduation, I plan to pursue a career in investigative reporting.
My passion for journalism began in high school, where I worked my way up to editor-in-chief of our school newspaper and discovered the responsibility and impact of guiding a newsroom. I am now a senior at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in journalism and media with a concentration in creative media, and I am a proud member of the Chancellor’s Honors College.
Additionally, I have made the Dean’s List every semester and belong to Phi Kappa Phi, recognizing the top 7.5% of my class, as well as Kappa Tau Alpha, the national journalism honor society.
In July 2025, I studied abroad in Prague, where I had the opportunity to report on international stories through written and video assignments, conducting field interviews and working under tight deadlines in a global journalism environment. The experience deepened my understanding of how to report stories thoughtfully and accurately across cultures and reinforced the importance of careful, ethical reporting in every context.
I have gained newsroom experience across local, national and international reporting environments. I joined The Daily Beacon as a copy editor before being promoted to copy chief and, most recently, managing editor. In my current role, I lead the newsroom's daily editorial operations, working closely with editors and reporters to guide coverage, strengthen storytelling and uphold the publication's high editorial standards while shaping the direction of the newsroom.
This summer, I worked as a news intern at the Richmond Times-Dispatch, where I gained experience on the editing and print production team to prepare stories for both digital publication and the newspaper’s print and e-edition platforms. I also reported on local news, covering topics including city government, the local school board and Richmond Animal Care and Control.
Currently, I serve as an accountability reporting intern at The Knoxville News Sentinel, where I pitch, report and fact-check local data-driven enterprise stories on public interest issues while collaborating closely with editors.
I previously interned with Citywire USA in New York, reporting on financial markets, interviewing CEOs and senior executives in the investment sector, and writing published articles for two daily newsletters. I also attended the Tennessee Journalism Academy, hosted by The Tennessean, participating in professional workshops and reporting exercises alongside industry journalists.
My skills span reporting, editing and multimedia storytelling, with experience in AP style, copy editing, fact-checking, proofreading, web and print headline writing, and print production. I am comfortable guiding stories from draft to publication under tight deadlines, conducting interviews, performing research and collaborating closely with editors and reporters to strengthen clarity and impact.
I am proficient in content management systems such as BLOX, SNO, WordPress and CMS, as well as productivity and collaboration tools like Google Workspace and Microsoft Office. I also have experience with basic video editing workflows, digital illustration and other creative tools that allow me to enhance storytelling across formats.
Investigative and accountability reporting are central to my work. I have experience developing and filing Freedom of Information Act requests and using public records to pursue stories that might otherwise go untold. I enjoy digging into government documents, data and records to identify trends, answer questions and provide readers with reporting that holds institutions accountable.
Across all my work, I prioritize precision, accuracy, ethical decision-making and well-structured narratives, while continuously seeking to refine my craft and adapt to new tools and challenges in the evolving media landscape.
